Review of Clash at the Castle 2024 and RCW Live Event in Cork City

Published on 17 June 2024 at 15:43

This past weekend was a busy one, with the major Glasgow event from WWE and a phenomenal outing at Rebel County Wrestling (RCW) in Cork City. WWE Clash at the Castle and RCW's "Say Hello to My Little Friend" event, there’s plenty to unpack.

WWE Clash at the Castle: Surprises and Outcomes

The WWE remains an enigma, with their premium live events often leaving fans on the edge of their seats. Clash at the Castle was no exception, throwing up several surprises. I haven't watched the entire event yet, but from the highlights and updates, it seems to have been quite the spectacle. Despite a few botches, Drew McIntyre’s unexpected loss due to CM Punk's interference was a significant twist.

Local talents Alba Fyre and Isla Dawn also had their deserved moment of glory, although their match wrapped up quicker than anticipated, possibly due to a few mistakes from Jade Cargill who knows? This has set the stage for a potential feud between Cargill and Bianca Belair, promising more drama in the coming months.

Bayley’s victory was predictable, much like the outcomes in the matches featuring Sami and Chad and Cody and AJ. It's difficult to predict what's to come!

Rebel County Wrestling

Moving on from the global stage to a more intimate setting, I had the pleasure of attending RCW's event in Cork City for the first time. Let me tell you, my expectations were blown away. The PAV venue offers an intimate experience where you can be right up close to the action, and the crowd’s enthusiasm was a real highlight of the night.

RCW Interim Championship and Highlights

The night was packed with fantastic matches. The RCW Rebel X Championship match kicked off the night with a thrilling showdown between Robbie X, Mark Haskins, Martin Steers, and Fabio. Mark Haskins emerged victorious, showcasing his remarkable talent by making Robbie X tap out.

Grudege Match

One of the night’s more unique encounters was between Raven Creed and Steve Savage in a Falls Count Anywhere match. Originally set against Billy Bedlam, Steve Savage stepped in due to unforeseen circumstances, offering a brutal and physical match. Raven Creed held her ground impressively, ultimately securing the win with the help of some joker-esque clowns.

Team Battles and Tag Matches

The RCW tag team battle saw the Bearded Beauties, Mo Money Mo Problems, and the Good, the Boyd, and the Ugly in action. The standout of this match was undeniably Mo Money Mo Problems' entrance, worth the ticket price alone. Despite the hard-hitting nature of the battle and some table-smashing moments, Mo Money Mo Problems came out on top, and we also witnessed the introduction of the RCW trio belts.

Irish King of Wrestling

The King of Irish Wrestling bout brought its own set of thrills, with Phil Boyd ultimately securing the crown. This fast-paced, Money in the Bank-style match introduced Kuro the Kid, an exciting new talent to watch.

Final Matches and Main Event

The penultimate match between Rose Tinted Glasses and The Sem and Mr. Charlie featured a hilarious “what's in the box” segment, while Rose Tinted Glasses emerged victorious.

Main Event

The night finished with a gripping main event where Andy Steele faced off against CBL for the interim RCW championship. This brutal encounter was cut short due to an injury to CBL, but Mark Haskins stepped in to complete the match, earning his second title of the night by making Andy Steele tap out.

Conclusion

My first RCW event was nothing short of fantastic, and I highly recommend experiencing it in person. The promotion is filled with talent and offers top-notch production, deserving of more exposure. The next event, “Minus One,” is slated for July 20th, and I hope to attend,

Furthermore, I am looking forward to exploring more Irish wrestling promotions, starting with the No Limit Summer Bash on July 7th at the Moat Theatre in Naas County, Kildare.
